Three Valleys Community Foundation Launches Sunol Recovery Fund
The Sunol Recovery and Relief Fund will help the hard-hit community recover from its damage during the storms last month.

PLEASANTON, CA — The Three Valleys Community Foundation is launching a philanthropic fund to aid the Sunol community, which was one of the hardest-hit areas in the Tri-Valley during the January rains.
The Sunol Business Guild, the Sunol Glen Community Club and the Sunol Citizens Advisory Council have joined together to create the Sunol Relief and Recovery Fund.
“Sunol experienced a tremendous amount of damage,” Alameda County Supervisor David Haubert, whose district encompasses the community, said in a statement. “The atmospheric river deluge devastated Sunol Glen school, creating extensive damage to classrooms, offices, the school garden and playground. When you combine that with the road and infrastructure damage, as well as the personal property losses for many residents, it’s clear Sunol neighbors need our help.”

Sunol Glen Principal Molly Barnes said that her school will need three new portable classrooms, a new fence, new playground equipment, new classroom materials, new rugs, new books, and new garden supplies. Alameda County, FEMA, and private insurance will cover some costs, but significant gaps remain for the school and many others in the community.
“We are so grateful for the initial private contributions designed to help Sunol Glen school. The support of our community and the willingness to participate in the flood recovery efforts has been amazing,” Barnes said.

The community is invited to help clean up the school Saturday from 9-4. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Volunteers are asked to bring gloves, rakes, shovels, a water bottle, and clothes or shoes that can get dirty.
“We are delighted to stand strong with the greater Sunol community to help address these unmet needs,” CEO/President of Three Valleys Community Foundation Kelly Bowers said in a statement. “The rains may have dissipated, but the relief needs remain. This field of interest fund will provide that necessary long-term recovery assistance.”
