Traffic Advisory: Road Closure For 'Every 15 Minutes' Anti-DUI
Police said a road near Amador Valley High School will be partially closed for the event Thursday.

PLEASANTON, CA – The annual "Every 15 Minutes" high-impact, anti-DUI program planned this week at Amador Valley High School, brings with it a road closure, according to police. To facilitate the program's staged collision portion of the event, the Pleasanton Police Department on Thursday, Feb. 28 will close part Del Valle Parkway between Harvest Road and Main Street from 8:50 a.m. to about 2 p.m., the agency said.
Traffic will be detoured around the scene, and area residents will be allowed access to and from their homes, the department said.
The Pleasanton Unified School District, along with Pleasanton police, will present the "Every 15 Minutes" program at Amador Valley High School on Thursday, Feb 28 and Friday, March 1. This is the 18th year the department has offered the program.

"Every 15 Minutes," which derives its name from the frequency at which a person is killed in an alcohol- or drug-related collision in the U.S., is designed to teach young adults about the dangers and consequences of driving under the influence, police said. The program, directed by high school juniors and seniors, includes a mock, fatal traffic collision which simulates a DUI crash in which young adults are killed.
The collision will be simulated on Del Valle Parkway with real-life paramedics, firefighters and police officers at the scene. Amador juniors and seniors will watch emergency crews in action and witness "the arrest of the intoxicated driver," police said.

A follow-up assembly will be held at Amador High's gymnasium on Friday, March 1, but no street closures are involved with the assembly.
During Thursday's event, several emergency vehicles will be involved, and area residents will hear sirens and could see the California Highway Patrol's helicopter land to transport an "injured" party to the hospital, police said.
Also involved in the annual event will be the City of Pleasanton's streets department, the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department, Paramedics Plus, Graham-Hitch Mortuary, Save Tow, the CHP and Eden Medical Center.
