Valley Humane's New Veterinary Surgery Center To Open May 6
The Phil Scholz Veterinary Surgery Center will focus on spaying and neutering, and performing specialty procedures when cost is a barrier.

PLEASANTON, CA — The Phil Scholz Veterinary Surgery Center, the Valley Humane Society’s new $1.9 million hospital, will open May 6 at 120 Spring Street in Pleasanton, the organization announced. A grand opening is scheduled for May 6 from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and spay and neuter appointments are currently available.

The new surgery center will be able to accommodate up to 140 spay and neutering sessions a week, Valley Humane said. The center will also perform life-saving specialty procedures through veterinary referral when cost is a barrier.

With the new center, Valley Humane will be able to support more adoptions in the Tri-Valley because the state of California requires animal shelters to spay or neuter all animals before they are adopted.
The center is named for Phil Scholz, a Pleasanton resident and Valley Humane Society supporter who lost his life in January 2014 rescuing another man from the Santa Clara rail tracks during his commute home.

“Scholz’ legacy of selflessness and compassion is well-remembered by those who knew him, including his colleagues at NVIDIA who raised more than a third of the total project funding to secure naming rights in honor of Scholz,” Valley Humane said in a statement.
