PLEASANTON, CA — A few weeks ago, Peter Miller spotted a rattlesnake at Augustin Bernal Park. Now, he's back with another creepy critter: a vulture seen spanning its wings on a park tree branch. Vultures are a type of bird found all over the world that are best known as scavengers who eat dead animals.

California is home to three native species of vulture: the Black Vulture (typically found along the coast and in the southern part of the state, and have a wingspan of up to four feet), the Turkey Vulture (found in a variety of habitats, with a wingspan of up to six feet), and the California Condor (the largest land bird in North America, with a wingspan of over nine feet, and is typically found in mountainous regions.)
