Wild One Cal Mex Grill To Open In Pleasanton
Downtown is in transition. Handles recently closed and Dean's Cafe was abruptly shuttered after failing a routine health inspection.

PLEASANTON, CA — A new fast food eatery will open on Main Street in Pleasanton this month. Wild One Cal Mex Grill will move in to the spot formerly occupied by High Tech Burrito, according to Pamela Ott, the Director of Economic Development in Pleasanton. The restaurant will feature organic Mexican food. Wild One will be located at 349 Main Street.
Downtown Pleasanton has had quite a few changes in the last few months. Handles Gastropub closed in late February after seven years in the historic Pleasanton Hotel.
At the other end of Main Street, Heroes and Villains Comics closed its doors on Feb. 18. Co-owner Jim Cravens said the tough decision to close was made in 2017 after his business partner Catherine de Dood became ill.

Dean’s Cafe was abruptly closed after it failed a routine health inspection on Feb. 6. It remains closed but could reopen if it passes the next inspection. Patch reached out to an employee at Dean's who declined to comment at the time and has not returned a call for comment.

Ott said the new building under construction at 725 Main Street is coming along, although there is not yet a tenant identified for the space. Color Me Mine is open again in downtown, in the former Berry Patch space.

Several new businesses have debuted in the city. A new build-your-own-burger franchise restaurant opened in the Stoneridge Shopping Center. The Counter Custom Burgers celebrated its grand opening on January 29. The burger eatery will offer burgers, milkshakes, salads, bowls, cocktails, beer and wine.
85°C Bakery Cafe, which opened in Pleasanton on Jan. 12, celebrated its grand opening by giving away free mugs and tote bags. The name refers to the temperature at which the coffee is maintained, according to the company Facebook page.
A new craft beer eatery recently opened in Pleasanton. Bottle Taps serves beer, wine and small bites. The menu features tapas, appetizers, salads, and more substantial fare for those with bigger appetites. They offer cider tasting for the kids. They celebrated their grand opening on Feb. 23.
