• Cities often squabble over homelessness. A new California law forces one community to try something different (publicceo.com) — Rancho Cordova is now required by a new state law to join Sacramento, Elk Grove, Citrus Heights, Folsom and the county in forming a joint powers authority to coordinate homelessness services by January 2028. Supporters say this forced collaboration could streamline help for unhoused residents, while critics worry about added bureaucracy, costs, and the precedent of state-mandated regional governance.

• Feds allege ex-Sacramento council member Loloee, co-defendant were in relationship (sacbee.com) — A federal trial tied to former Sacramento council member Sean Loloee's Viva Supermarkets includes allegations about a co-defendant's relationship with him and her living arrangements, which her attorney disputes. One of the chain's stores is in Rancho Cordova, where prosecutors say workers at Viva locations serving Latino neighborhoods were underpaid and intimidated, and several co-defendants have already pleaded guilty to tax charges.
