Making the Best-Ever Chocolate Malts

Cool off your hot summer nights with the best ever chocolate malt!

With warm summer nights comes waves of childhood nostalgia.  Of days playing in the sprinklers and of staying out late riding bikes or playing kickball in the street until mothers stood on their front porch calling their children's name to come on in.  Do moms do this anymore?

One of my best summer memories was of my mom making chocolate malts for whoever happened to be around on a particular night. Lately I've been craving a taste of my childhood which has also become a summer tradition in our home.

There's no extact recipe as the ingredients are to taste but this will get you started and then you can tweak it to your own liking.

The Best-Ever Chocolate Malts

Half gallon of vanilla ice cream

Milk

Hersey's Chocolate Syrup

Malted powder  (Check Ralphs. Pavilions doesn't carry it last time I checked. I found some made by Carnation.)

To the blender add:

1/3 c. Milk

1/4 c. Hershey's Chocolate Syrup or a couple hard and long squeezes of the syrup bottle

3 heaping Tbs. Malt powder

Blend together the milk, chocolate syrup and the malt powder.  After the mixture is blended, add scoops of vanilla ice cream and blend.  If you want more malts, add more ice cream. At this time you can add more milk for a thinner consistency, more chocolate and/or more malt powder to intensify the flavor.

Tip: After some time in your pantry, the malt powder might harden up a little but it is still good.  Blending the powder with the milk and syrup will break up any lumps.

Make some memories and pair this with recipe I shared.  They are both memorable summer faire.
