Photos: SAMLARC's Fishing Derby Reels In the Crowd

Hundreds of SAMLARC residents gathered around the Lago Santa Margarita Lakeshore for a morning of fishing, games, contests and more!

More than 350 Rancho Santa Maragarita residents set their alarms and turned up early on Saturday for SAMLARC's Annual Fishing Derby. The Derby officially kicked off at 7 a.m., but many families were there early hoping to get a jump start on the day. Once registration began, participants were able to drop a line for a chance to win awards for the Most Fish, Smallest Fish and Biggest Fish Caught.

While families fished, young ones were entertained with music, carnival games, face painters and an inflatable slide. Even the Screamin' Ice Cream truck was on hand to sell morning goodies—hot chocolate and much needed coffee.

As the sun came out, so did the fish! As they began to bite, residents brought their catchings to the SAMLARC booth to be weighed, measured and counted.
