Four ID'd In Horrific Modjeska Canyon Motorcycle Crash

RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, CA —Two motorcycles collided on Santiago Canyon Road, Sunday afternoon, resulting in four deaths, officials said.

On Tuesday, the Orange County Coroner's Office positively identified the four who perished in the collision as Regina Michelle Crowder, 48, of Fountain Valley; Jon Michael Schwarz, 50, of Tustin; David Mark Terman, 59, of Santa Ana; and Edith Mae Hegy, 62, of Elko, Nevada.

Santiago Canyon Road, closed for nine hours, reopened to through traffic on Monday in the Modjeska Canyon area of Orange County.

The head-on crash occurred about 4:30 p.m. Sunday on a blind curve near Santiago Canyon and Modjeska Canyon roads, said California Highway Patrol Officer Florentino Olivera.

A Harley Davidson heading northbound on Santiago Canyon, carrying two people, swerved into oncoming traffic to get around a Scion TC, Olivera said.

"The Harley Davidson slammed head-on into a Honda motorcycle carrying two people," Olivera reported. "All four, two men and two women, were killed. The riders on the Harley were in their early 40s, and the riders on the Honda were 60 years old."

Santiago Canyon Road was closed in both directions from Silverado Canyon to Hicks Haul Road until 1:50 a.m. Monday, the CHP reported.
