High-Speed Pursuit Ends With Arrest, 5 Catalytic Converters Found In South Orange County
The suspect was also driving in a stolen car when he was arrested early Tuesday morning in south Orange County, authorities said.
RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, CA — A man was arrested early Tuesday morning after leading Orange County Sheriff's deputies on a high-speed chase that was called off due to exceeding speeds of 120 miles per hour, the OCSD reported.
The incident happened when an OCSD sergeant was patrolling the area of Alicia Parkway and the Interstate 5 Freeway at around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.
While at the scene, the patrol team saw a vehicle running a red light before fleeing onto the freeway at a "high rate of speed." As deputies followed the suspect into a pursuit on the freeway, it was soon called off due to "the speeds in excess of 120 miles per hour," a statement said.

"Fortunately, the OC Sheriff's helicopter 'Duke' continued to follow the vehicle into Los Angeles County," an OCSD statement read. "The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department was able to safely stop the suspect."
While in pursuit, the OCSD found that the vehicle had a stolen license plate and was previously reported stolen. Deputies also found five cut catalytic converters inside of the vehicle.

The suspect, who was not identified by authorities, was arrested for: possession of a stolen vehicle; receiving known stolen property; reckless evading of a peace officer and reckless driving.
