Several off-duty Orange County Sheriff's Department deputies and Orange County Fire Authority firefighters were in the crowd at the country music festival on the Las Vegas strip, where a gunman opened fire, killing at least 58 people and injuring over 515 in the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.
It wasn't immediately known exactly how many OCFA and OCSD employees and family members were in attendance at the Route 91 Harvest Country Music Festival on Sunday night, but many were checking in Monday morning to report that they escaped harm, OCFA Capt. Steve Concialdi said.
"We began asking all of our firefighters who was in attendance at the concert, and then checking in to ensure everyone was all right," Concialdi said. In all, seven firefighters and their family members attended the concert and all are safe and accounted for, according to Concialdi.
