Rancho Santa Margarita Brush Fire Quickly Contained, OCFA Says
Traffic snarls during a small brush fire off 241, on the heels of a larger San Clemente Fire, filled Rancho Santa Margarita with smoke.

RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, CA — Where there is smoke in Rancho Santa Margarita, the Orange County Fire Authority is quick to respond during this season of wildfires.
On Wednesday, Orange County Fire Authority firefighters responded to the scene of a small brush fire, named the Freeway Fire, in Rancho Santa Margarita at approximately 3:45 p.m.
Traffic through the area was at a standstill according to drivers.

The northbound 3 and 4 lanes of the 241 Freeway near Santa Margarita Parkway were closed for approximately one hour for official vehicles to finish putting down the fire, according to reports from the scene.
The fire, which covered approximately one-quarters of an acre, burned through local vegetation and was quickly dispersed by OCFA firefighters. Twenty firefighters responded to the scene according to OCFA Captain Larry Kurtz.

Air support for the blaze came from the recent San Clemente area La Pata fire, according to OCFA.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation as of 4 p.m.
