Residents Sought In 5K Run To Aid RSM Teen Critically Injured In Crash
South Orange County residents can help support 17-year-old Cruz Melendez and his family by participating in the July 4 5K.

RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, CA — A fatal crash in Rancho Santa Margarita that killed one and wounded two others is garnering widespread community response, and an outpour of support channeled toward one Trabuco Hills High School teen who was critically injured in the crash.
Community members who wish to offer hope and support to 17-year-old Cruz Melendez and his family are asked to join Team Cruz during the 16th annual Freedom Run 5K on July 4.
Residents who register under Team Cruz will have a percentage of their registration proceeds donated straight to the family. To register, residents can view the Freedom Run's website and enter the password "Cruz."

"I am so grateful for the people God has placed in my life, and looking forward to running the race of perseverance set before us," Mother Rahnee Melendez said.
17-year-old Cruz Melendez was driving home from his Ladera Ranch job when his Jeep was hit head-on by another driver near Tijeras Creek Road in May.

He is currently recovering in a south Orange County hospital.
Residents participating in the 5K must sign up before June 21. The Melendez family and friends will be selling custom "4CRU" T-shirts in anticipation of the 5K, with all proceeds going to benefit the Melendez family.
The Freedom Run 5K takes place July 4 at 8:30 a.m. at 1 Daisy St. in Ladera Ranch. For more information, visit the Freedom Run's website.
