Sixth-Grader 'Beyond Excited' as Oscars Moment Nears

Sierra Plys from Rancho Santa Margarita will be singing at the Academy Awards during the tribute portion of the show.

She's a home-schooled sixth-grader with an angelic voice, and tonight at 8:01 p.m., Sierra Plys gets her Oscar moment.

The Rancho Santa Margarita girl, a member of the Southern California Children's Chorus, will sing on the Louis Armstrong song, "What a Wonderful World," during the tribute portion of the show that honors members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences who have died over the past year.

"I'm so excited to see everything come together, from the decorations, choices of glamorous wardrobes, professional performers and most of all I can't believe that I am going to be performing for the very people I enjoy watching on screen," Sierra said. "I feel honored that the we were chosen to perform for such a historic event."

Her mother, Nicole Ludwig-Plys, said all the choir members—who are leaving by bus at 3 p.m. for the event at the Hollywood and Highland Center—are "beyond excited."

Penelope Cruz will be seated in the audience directly in front of Sierra during her stint at the .

While there's no guarantee the choir will be shown on television, if host Billy Crystal is able to keep the broadcast on schedule, the choir and tribute will take place at 8:01 p.m. during the telecast.

For those who might try to see her onscreen, there are two sets of stairs leading up to the stage, and Sierra will be standing on the left side—next to the center of the stage—on the right set of stairs. She will be standing on the first step from the floor, meaning there will be one row of singers in front of her.

She had been on the far right before her dress rehearsal on Saturday, and it's still possible that things could change at the last minute and she could wind up elsewhwhere—after all, it's show business.
