LADERA RANCH, CA — When it comes to helping residents, even the four legged kind, Orange County Fire Authority is always ready to lend a hand. Over the weekend, a Ladera Ranch resident and her daughter brought their pet rabbit that was trapped inside a watering bucket to the local fire station, according to OCFA Capt. Steve Concialdi.
The little guy, for unknown reasons, had gotten his head trapped inside the can and was unable to free himself without assistance. When the pet-owner was unable, they raced their furry friend to the local fire station.
An OCFA firefighter used his extrication-knowledge and a whole lot of kindness, and ultimately freed “Ozzy” the rabbit. The bunny was uninjured during the event.

Due to its "large ears" the bunny was definitely stuck, Christian Cotter observed. He brought it into the apparatus room, laid down a large towel, and took out tools to use during the operation.
It took a few minutes, but with the help of the bunny's owner, they carefully cut enough of an area around so that the rabbit could free itself.

"This shows that we are able to extricate all people and animals, whether from cars, rings from swollen fingers, but this was the first time that a rabbit had been brought in to be freed from a watering can. Always a first in the fire service, which makes the job unique and exciting every day," Concialdi said.
