A Quick Way to End Corruption in San Bernardino County
Want a clean county, beef up the Grand Jury.
With the reputation in San Bernardino County in taters, solutions abound about what to do about this constantly recurring problem. The ideas that have been promoted so far: Establish an ethics commission, cap campaign contributions, fire them all and replace them with new representatives, etc.
I feel that all these, in the end, will be ineffective or create new layers of government where it is not needed. The easiest and simplest way to reduce corruption is to beef up the Grand Jury system that we have within the county.
Currently, our Grand Jury convenes once a year. The current demographics skew old, male, and caucasian. We should strive to increase diversity on the board in both age and ethnicity. In addition, we should pay them a little bit more. Currently, board members get $25 for the day.

The Grand Jury has identified problems in the Assesors Office in the past and has currently performed oversight of the shady dealings at the San Bernardino Internation Airport.
More watchdogs like this sorely needed in this county.
