Is "Meek" Strong?

OK, "Blessed are the Meek" is a major part of the Beautitudes in Matthew 5. Why is it an important quality to have?

"Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth."  Matthew 5:5
Ok, that’s ok on paper, but what about when you are feeling frustrated, and it’s really valid?  There are times when even the most mellow people grit their teeth!  Frustration...  Simply reading this word can put one in a mental framework where one’s blood pressure climbs up the ladder!

Picture the following scenario.  It was a hot day and my vehicle had been sitting in the sun for a while.  I keyed open the door, and climbed in.  Had no sooner sat down on the hot seat, then someone sounded their horn for me to close the car door-- "Hey, Can't you see, I’m still getting in!"   (I almost said that!!) Ever had that happen?

Now, I’m not saying that I’m mellow--but we all have buttons and sometimes they get pushed.  The point, is what do we do with them when someone gets under our skin? It’s easy to think someone else made me react--but in reality, that has to do with my choice on how I respond. Meekness  is a deliberately learned response.  That is why Jesus, in the Beatitudes put such an emphasis on it. It takes work.  But the reward is immeasurable.
