Touring the US House of Representatives

Memories of a 2011 personal tour of the US House of Representatives flooded back tonight while Obama babbled on during his State of the Union.

As predicted, Obama's State of the Union speech tonight was as boring as it was predictable and forgettable. In case you missed it, here'sΒ a recap: Socialist tripe, liberal code words, faux bipartisanship and lies about global warming, gun control, voting, budgeting and Obamacare.

The State of the Union might have been fun had I played "Obama buzzword bingo."

Here's what was cool about tonight: Two years ago this month, my wife, son and I got a personalized tour of the US House of Representatives a few days before I flew to Iraq.

In January 2011, while flying back to Maryland after a week of combat training in Georgia, a capitol hill worker who sat next to me on the flight lined me and my family up with a personalized tour.

Two weeks later,Β my familyΒ got our tourΒ of the US Capitol. The tour was one of numerous examples of complete strangers giving their hearts and souls to show their support for the military.

I will treasure forever how my son, then 6 years, stood where the president walks down the aisle of the US HouseΒ to deliver the State of the Union. My son, however, was more impressed by the bullet hole still in a House floor deskΒ resulting from a 1954 assassination attempt by Puerto Rican nationalists.

I will always also treasure being feet away from the spot where FDR declared war on JapanΒ during his timelessΒ "Day of Infamy" speech in 1941.Β I kept recalling the famous film clip as a slid my hand along the wooden furniture throughout the chamberΒ (we weren't allowed to stand on the podium where the president stands; photography was also prohibited).

Tonight, I reflected on my 2011 tour as Obama prattled on with his socialist bunk.

ThatΒ priceless memoryΒ is what was cool about tonight's state of the unionΒ speech.Β

I've already forgotten what Obama said.
