Winter Chain Installer Applicants Sought

Applications must be mailed, postmarked and addressed to Caltrans Maintenance, Chain Installer Application, 175 W. Cluster Street, San Bernardino, CA 92408.

The state Department of Transportation is accepting applications for chain installers this winter season in the mountains north of Redlands and Loma Linda until Sept. 24.

Applications must be mailed, postmarked and addressed to Caltrans Maintenance, Chain Installer Application, 175 W. Cluster Street, San Bernardino, CA 92408.

No walk-in applications will be accepted, according to Caltrans District 8.

There are four designated areas with 75 permit positions:

· State Route 18, from San Bernardino to Lucerne Valley, including Snow Valley, 20 permit positions.
· State Route 330, from the 210 Freeway to State Route 18, 30 permit positions.
· State Route 38, from Bryant Street to Hatchery Rd, 20 permit positions.
· State Route 138, from State Route 2 to the 15 Freeway and State Route 2, 5 permits, good on both routes.
