Census Says Loma Linda is Becoming More Diverse

The white population is down while the number of other ethnicities creeps up.

For a city that takes pride in serving the world, the recently released U.S. Census data shows Loma Linda’s population is becoming more worldly and diverse.

The city’s overall population increased to 23,261 in 2010, up from 18,681 in 2000. 

The population of those who identified as white is currently 11,122, or 47.8 percent of the population. In 2000, that number was 10,121 or 54.2 percent.

The African-American population rose to 2,032, or 8.7 percent of the population, up from 1,347, or 7.2 percent, a decade ago.  

The number of Latinos/Hispanics is 5,171, or 22 percent of the population. Ten years ago, Hispanics numbered 3,050, or 16 percent.

The Asian population grew to 6,589, or 28.3 percent of the population. In 2000, the number was 4,555, or 24.4 percent.
