Colton Mayor David Zamora Dies Following Crash

Zamora suffered a heart attack while driving and died at Loma Linda University Medical Center, officials said.

Colton Mayor David Zamora, known for his positive outlook, died today after suffering a heart attack while behind the wheel of his car.

Few details had been released as of 5:30 p.m. Officials said the mayor had been headed home from City Hall when he suffered the heart attack and crashed his vehicle on La Cadena Avenue. It was a solo vehicle crash, no one else was injured, city officials said.

He was taken to Loma Linda University Medical Center where he died at 1:40 p.m. in the emergency room, San Bernardino Coroner’s officials said.

“As was widely reported, just last week following Mayor Zamora’s first State of the City address, with love and conviction he felt that the City of Colton has embarked – in his own words – upon a ‘New Beginning',” City Manager Rod Foster said in a written statement. “We are confident that his legacy will be well-served by the City continuing in the spirit of his leadership.”

Officials said funeral announcements and additional information would be announced when available.
