Combing the best of online and offline learning for your kids

Parents considering full-time online education often ask--How much time will my child spend in front of a computer? Learn about Community Day programs and other social and learning opportunities at California Virtual Academies.

One of the most common questions I get from parents considering full-time online education for their children is how much time will students spend at home in front of a computer. What about interaction with other kids and teachers?

At California Virtual Academies (CAVA), a full-time, online public charter school, we understand the importance of a diversity of activities and socialization for a child’s development, that’s why we provide ongoing social and academic opportunities outside of the home. This helps students and their families make friends and stay connected.

During the school year, we also offer a program for students in K-8 and high school called Community Day. There are locations throughout the state including right here in Redlands. It’s a unique mix of online learning and traditional in-person instruction with social activities.Β  Families enjoy the best of both worlds. You can learn more about Redlands Community Day at an in-person information session.

July 24, 10:00-11:00 at Sylvan Park--730 Chapel Street, Redlands, 92374

CAVA teachers, parents, and students can meet weekly face-to-face at Community Day in an enriching interactive learning environment for in-person instruction in math and English/language arts from the award-winning K12 curriculum with customized learning plans tailored to students’ needs. Students have the flexibility to accelerate through the curriculum that they have mastered, or take the extra time they might need to grasp concepts.

In the Community Day program, students engage with their peers, and CAVA students are invited to participate in academic and social enrichment opportunities such as science fairs, art shows, spelling bees, PE and community service projects.

Parents get the chance to network with other CAVA parents and staff for support, receive tips on teaching strategies, and enjoy a little socializing themselves.Β
