A Virginia-based organization, also a leading conservative
group targeted by the IRS, will travel to Mentone on Sept. 7 to conduct an
all-day training session for Inland Empire political activists.
The Leadership Institute was notified by the IRS in 2011
that the government wanted to inspect its records from 2008.
The Leadership Institute, based in Arlington, Va., is a
leading conservative training organization. In 2012, its staff trained more
than 13,000 people, including more than 8,000 in the United States.

The Sept. 7 session in Redlands is listed as a “Campaign
Management Workshop.” Classes focus on the boots on the ground training people
need to get involved in the political process. Training is also aimed at people
considering a run for public office. One training module will focus on winning
elections in tough districts.
This training could be the first time a nationally known conservative
group has traveled to the Redlands area to provide training.

The Redlands Tea Party Patriots asked the Leadership
Institute earlier this year to travel to Mentone and provide training for area
conservatives. Two other groups, Redlands Townhall and the Redlands Republican
Women’s Club Federated, are also providing support.
The training is scheduled for the Mill Creek Cattle Co.,
1874 Mentone Blvd. in Mentone. Registration starts at 8:30 a.m. and training is
expected to conclude about 4:30 p.m. The cost is $25. Food is available
separately from the Mill Creek Cattle Co.
The Leadership Institute will also present “Latinos and
Conservatives, Issues that Unite” in Ontario on Sept. 19. The website lists Los
Angeles as the training location, but institute officials said the training is
scheduled for Ontario.
