Loma Linda Council to Discuss Sex Offender Issue
The council will seek to formally adopt restrictions on where offenders can live.

The high number of convicted sex offenders who reoffend has prompted Loma Linda officials to consider officially adopting restrictions as to where registered offenders can live.
The ordinance would formally adopt restrictions already in place through Jessica’s Law. They include prohibiting sex offenders from living within 2,000 feet of a park or a place where children congregate.
The council will meet tonight at 7:30 p.m. in the council chambers, 25541 Barton Road.

The council had addressed the issue before, but had asked staff to define what constituted a park. They also asked for a map of restricted areas. This will be the second reading of the ordinance.
There are 25 registered sex offenders in Loma Linda. All of them are in compliance with city officials, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

Extending the collection of property taxes to help fund redevelopment projects will be open to a public hearing at tonight’s meeting.
A portion of taxes are earmarked for the redevelopment agency. The money is used to pay debts incurred by the agency for projects. The city has issued bonds and made arrangements for contracts needed to pay off bonds the city issued among other debts.
The item is open to public comment. The council will discuss the issue on a first reading. A second reading has been scheduled for March 1.
The council will review the mid-year fiscal budget. City Manager T. Jarb Thaipejr will run down the numbers in a report.
