Snow Valley Ski Resort Opens

Snow started to fall in the San Bernardino mountains on Thanksgiving Day while everyone was cooking turkey and making pies. It brought a significant amount of snow to the local mountains, enough for Snow Valley Mountain Resort in Running, Springs to open. Snow Valley is located on Highway 18 and is a great alternative to Big Bear. The mountain evenings have been cold enough for the snow machines to blow a fresh coat of powder on the slopes for the early birds who arrive first thing in the morning.

Snow Valley is a full service ski resort with great deals on lift tickets, a sport shop for all your skiing and snowboarding accessories. There is also a rental shop where skis, snowboards, boots and poles can be rented for a reasonable day rate. The lines are always shorter than at the Big Bear resorts, which allows for more runs and more fun in snow.

The resort has a full slate of classes for both adults and children with Learn to Ski or Learn to Board classes for adults and Explorer and Adventurer full day and half day classes for the youngsters. There are also two lifts operating for sledding runs for those who don’t want to ski or snowboard but wanted to enjoy winter snow play. The sledding, snow play area requires the purchase of a lift ticket and includes a sled, so all you have to do is bring warm clothing, get into the car and get sledding.

It’s fun for the whole family and there’s something for everyone including those who enjoy the view of winter but prefer the warmth and comfort of the lodge. There is the Last Run Lounge for a yummy winter hot toddy or Bloody Mary and a full service kitchen serving wings, burgers, pizza and whole menu of good food.
