Let's Talk Charity Fundraisers
The Day at the Derby fundraiser in Rolling Hills for Rainbow Services is a real success!

I had the honor of being invited by the lovely, delightful and very successful Owner/Broker of more RE/MAX offices than I can count (a little white lie), Sandra Sanders, to a fundraiser for Rainbow Services, a nonprofit Organization helping victims of domestic violence.
The event was held at an incredibly expansive private home in Rolling Hills, behind the gates and amongst the horsey trails and verdant canopy of lazy trees.
Did you know that one out of every four women will be the victim of domestic violence in her life? I found that to be a very surprising and staggering statistic.

The theme of the event was “A Day at the Derby”; the ladies were asked to dress in style and dona hat. Give a lady—a real lady—an excuse to wear a hat and we flock to like the monarch butterflies heading south.
The vistas from the lawn were magnificent, the silent auction items got bid up very quickly. I was actually surprised that they didn’t allow the bidding to go on ... I think there might have been many more generous offers for the wonderful spread of items.

The food was delicious, the entertainment a delight and the short video testimonials on how this organization has made significant and positive change in the life of many women and their families was very touching.
The only troubling byproduct of outdoor dining was the weather. The Southern California winds picked up, and the pashminas couldn’t keep up with the drop in temperature.
I’m not sure how much money was raised for this needy cause, but whatever the amount, I know we all made a difference.
