Massive Blackout Cuts Power For Over 36,900 In Beach Cities
Power was cut for 30,540 Southern California Edison customers in Redondo Beach and 6,412 in Manhattan Beach on Monday.

REDONDO BEACH, CA — Over 36,000 Beach Cities residents lost power Monday afternoon due to A massive power outage that affected 30,540 in Redondo Beach and 6,412 in Manhattan Beach, according to Southern California Edison.
The outage was due to an interruption at an SCE substation, according to spokesperson David Song.
"The substation is like the hub. Every circuit tied to the substation would lose power," Song said.

The outages were reported at around 2:40 p.m. in the area near the 91 freeway according to SCE. Power was restored to most customers by 3:40 p.m. save for just 40 customers still experiencing a loss of power.
According to Song, the 40 customers may still be experiencing the outage because they are closest to the substation.

Though SCE technicians are still working on the substation interruption, Song said 99 percent of customers who experienced the hour-long outage should have already had their power restored.
