Redondo Beach Police Awarded Grant To Combat Underage Drinking

The grant will help reduce youth access to alcohol and increase safety in the community through education and prevention programs.

REDONDO BEACH, CA – The Redondo Beach Police Department announced Thursday that it's been awarded a grant which will help fund programs that increase public safety by combatting underage drinking and educating licensees about alcoholic beverage laws.

The grant was awarded from the California Department of Alcohol and Beverage Control through the California Office of Traffic Safety and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration; it will help reduce youth access to alcohol and increase safety in the community through Education and Prevention Programs, the RBPD press release said.

The goal of the grant is to reduce the availability of alcohol to minors and reduce alcohol-related crime through enforcement, educational, and prevention programs conducted by local Redondo Beach law enforcement officers, according to the press release.

Programs funded through the grant include Minor Decoy and Shoulder Tap Decoy operations, which are used to reduce youth access to alcohol; Informed Merchants Preventing Alcohol-Related Crime Tendency inspections, a program used to educate licensees, increase compliance with alcoholic beverage laws, and help prevent underage drinking; and Licensee Education on Alcohol and Drug trainings, to educate businesses on laws involving the sale and service of alcoholic beverages.
