The Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce presents the City Council Candidates Forum tonight, Thursday, March 29 from 7:30 to 10 a.m. at the Torrance Cultural Arts Center Nakano Theater. Producer Julie Nunis presents Daisy Pulls it Off for three shows only Wednesday, March 28 through Friday, March 30 at 7 p.m. at the Second Story Theater. Daisy Pulls it Off, written by Denise Deegan, is a family-friendly play that centers on the energetic character Daisy Meredith and her zany friend Trixie Martin, who are on the hunt for a missing treasure that could save the exclusive Grangewood School for Young Ladies that they attend. Along the way, Daisy makes personal discoveries and must overcome prejudice and bullying from the more affluent girls at her school. The award-winning play features Olivia and Sofia Jellen and Isabella Blake Thomas from Showtime’s Shameless, Once Upon a Time and Gameshakers. In addition, there will be a wine tasting and sneak preview reading at Uncorked in Hermosa Beach at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 27. Proceeds from the play will go to The Alliance of Women Directors, Women in Media, Sunscreen Film Festival West, and HBEF. Tickets are $15. The El Segundo Rotary Club presents the 51st annual Mayor’s Good Friday Breakfast on March 30 at 7 a.m. at the Automobile Driving Museum. The City of Torrance Community Services Department presents the annual Senior Prom: The Roaring 20s on Friday, March 30 from noon to 2:30 p.m. at the Ken Miller Recreation Center. The Redondo Beach Police Department will participate in National Stop the Bleed Day on Saturday, March 31. The top cause of preventable death in trauma is bleeding. 20% of people who have died from traumatic injuries could have survived with quick bleeding control.National Stop the Bleed Day brings Bleeding Control Instructors and students together for a day of training. The training is free, and the Redondo Beach Police Department will be hosting three different sessions on National Stop the Bleed Day. The classes will take place at the Redondo Beach Police Department’s training center. Registration is required to attend the free training. Each free session is 3 hours in length.Class 1 – 8:00 AM to 11:00 AMClass 2 – 12:00 PM to 3:00 PMClass 3 – 4:00 PM to 7:00 PMDrop in students are not allowed. The next Painting Week @ Villa Narcissa will take place Monday, April 2 through Saturday, April 7. Villa Narcissa is a rare gem: a hillside Italian garden, surrounded by Nature Conservancy with Southern California’s best views of the Pacific and Catalina Island. It has been loved and lived in by the Vanderlip family for over 100 years. Katrina Vanderlip will give a tour of the house and share some of the history throughout the week. The Painting Weeks were conceived to create a setting and atmosphere where high quality classic painting can be taught This sessions will be quite exciting. El Segundo Museum of Art has put out a Call for Artwork for the first Photo Festival, This is Awkward. The Festival will take place on Friday, May 4 and Saturday, May 5. How do you define awkward? Submit your photo or photo-based artwork that explores the theme of awkward. Submissions will be counted on a first-come, first serve basis starting on April 9. Please note that framed submissions cannot exceed 18” x 24” x 3”. Submissions will remain open until April 28 or until all spaces are filled. No more than two (2) submissions per artist. The Vietnam Veterans of South Bay Chapter 53 offers the annual Scholarship Essay Program for graduating high school seniors. Scholarships of $1,000 will be awarded to selected college-technical-school bound South Bay area high schools seniors. Students must report on a Vietnam era veteran that served in the armed forces on active duty (other than for training purposes) in the Republic of Vietnam between February 28, 1961 and May 7, 1975 or in any duty location between August 5, 1964 and May 7, 1965.
