
After leading GOP efforts to shut down the government over Obamacare, Sens. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Mike Lee (R-UT) headlined a march in D.C. yesterday to protest the closure of national parks and war memorials--you know, the ones they helped shut down. Cruz and Lee were joined by former Half-Term Alaska Governor and failed vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin at the Million Veterans March. The Tea Party was out in full force, looking like participants in a Klan rally with attendees waving giant Confederate flags in front of the White House and speakers calling for President Obama to “put down the Quran” and “come out with his hands up.” And it's 'Murica, so of course a guy with a rifle and ammo was arrested at the WWII memorial.
The original organizers of the veterans’ march didn't appreciate the Tea Party’s co-opting of their protest. On the Million Vet March homepage, the organizers pointed to a local organizer who invited Tea Party and birther groups against the wishes of the veterans.
And the Tea Party fringes of the GOP continue to unravel...
