1 Dead In RWC Crash Along Highway 101, DUI Suspected: CHP
The coroner's office has since identified the victim in the early morning crash.

REDWOOD CITY, CA — One man is dead following an early morning crash along Highway 101 in the Redwood City area, the CHP and coroner's officials report. Though officials are still investigating the cause of the wreck, "it appears rider may have been riding under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs," according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP Officer Art Montiel says the crash happened around 1:48 a.m. as a motorcyclist was headed northbound on U.S. 101, just south of Whipple Avenue.
"It appears a Harley Davidson was... splitting lanes #3 and #4 at a high rate of speed when the Harley came in contact with the right rear of a GMC van also traveling northbound," Montiel said in a news release.

The impact of bumping the van caused the motorcyclist to first slam into another car, a Honda, Montiel said. That second impact then led the rider to be ejected from his bike — and he was "consequently struck by a Toyota" which was also headed north. His body came to a rest in the leftmost lane of the highway.
CHP officers performed CPR on the man, but he was declared dead a the scene, Montiel said.

The San Mateo County coroner's office has since identified the man as Edwin Sandoval of Hayward. He was 37.
An on-scene investigation closed all lanes of northbound Highway 101 for an hour, Montiel said. Montiel said that all lanes were reopened by 5:21 a.m. in time for commute traffic.
Anyone who witnessed the collision or has information about it should call CHP Officer Daniel Scott at (650) 369-6261.
