427 Weapons Surrendered At San Mateo Co. Gun Buyback

SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA – A gun buyback held Saturday resulted in 427 weapons taken off the streets and being turned in for cash, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office.
Citizens who wished to give up their weapons were paid up to $100 for handguns, shotguns or rifles and up to $200 for assault rifles -- with no questions asked.
The event in Redwood City was organized by "Citizens for a San Mateo County Gun Buyback," a San Carlos-based citizen group, with support from San Mateo County Sheriff Carlos G. Bolanos, Redwood City Police Chief Dan Mulholland and Rep. Jackie Speier, D-San Francisco/San Mateo.
