Travel back to the 1880s and get your hands dirty (literally) with activities inspired by the redwood logging era that shaped this region. Try your hand at:

Celebrate Moms and Migratory Birds at the San Mateo County History Museum
Two celebrations are better than one — and this May, we're honoring both the moms in your life and the incredible birds that travel thousands of miles across the sky.
On Saturday, May 9, the San Mateo County History Museum is hosting a free "Celebration of Moms and Migratory Birds" from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The timing is perfect: May 9 is World Migratory Bird Day, and Mother's Day is right around the corner on May 10.
Step outside first and enjoy Redwood City's "Almost Mother's Day Concert" happening live on the square right in front of the museum. Then let the kids get creative with bird-themed crafts they can give to their moms as a one-of-a-kind homemade gift. Feeling adventurous? Take on the "Birding in the Museum" scavenger hunt and see how many feathered friends you can spot hidden throughout our exhibits. It's a great excuse to look a little closer at everything around you.
Best of all? It's completely free and open to everyone.

The Museum Auxiliary is bringing the past back to life with Polyester on Parade, the latest installment of the Courthouse Docket series. This fashion show highlights decades of style through pieces drawn from the beloved Millie Collection, spanning the 1950s all the way to the 1980s.
When polyester hit American store shelves in 1951, it wasn't just a new fabric. It was a revolution. Advertisers claimed it could be worn 68 days straight without ironing and still look fresh. For women who spent hours every week wrestling with wrinkled cotton and linen, that promise meant something real: more time, more freedom, more fun.
The Millie Collection owes its existence to museum volunteer Millie Hagstrom, who began gathering vintage clothing in the early 1980s for use in fashion shows and historical reenactments. Now cared for by the Museum Auxiliary, the collection spans the 1840s through the early 2000s and is a treasure trove of wearable history.
During Polyester on Parade, volunteers will take to the floor modeling some of the collection's standout polyester pieces, tracing the arc of fashion from the full, feminine skirts of the 1950s to the bold hot pants of the 1970s. The show isn't just about the clothes, though. Commentary will bring each outfit to life with stories about the local places and occasions where women would have actually worn them, grounding the history in this community's own story.

My name is Clint Blakely and I’m a product of Mountain View High School's performing arts departments, where I fell in love with music singing with the Madrigals. I hold a BA in Jazz Voice from USC's Thornton School of Music. I've played &amp; sung music around the world – Los Angeles bars &amp; clubs, Amsterdam concert halls, Rio de Janeiro churches... I love teaching lessons over Zoom! For the past 5 years, I’ve taught students all over the world whose ages range from 4 years old to 60+. My students have a wide variety of skill levels, from complete beginners to 10+ years of prior study. In my lessons, I combine technical instruction and creative exercises within a fun, encouraging atmosphere.
