Chuck Velschow Appointed to Fill Vacant Seat on Belmont-Redwood Shores Board
Chuck Velschow was appointed to the school board Thursday night.

Chuck Velschow, a parent who works as teacher at Woodside High School, was appointed to the Board of Trustees on Thursday night.
Velschow was among seven candidates who for the seat on the board left by the departure of trustee Michael Parker.
When discussing the candidates for the seat, each of the board members agreed Velschow would be a good choice.

"I’m looking for what’s going to be an addition to fill a gap that we already have," trustee Brian Matthews said. "An educator is that gap."
Board President Andy Stulbarg said what stuck out for him about Velschow was his willingness to devote so much time to the board.

During his interview, Velschow said he would give up vacation and coaching in order to serve on the board.
"I thought, “Wow,” Stulbarg said. "He was willing to give up [being the] assistant football coach to join us on the board."
Velschow was sworn in as soon as he was selected, handed an agenda and began serving right away.
