DUI Checkpoint Planned On The Peninsula
Police announced the local DUI/driver's license checkpoint this week. (breaking)

SAN MATEO, CA — San Mateo police will staff a DUI/driver's licence checkpoint in town on Friday night, it was announced. The operation is slated to begin at 6 p.m. and last for approximately eight hours.
Police do not share the exact location of checkpoints ahead of time, but rather notify the public that one will be occurring within city limits.
"The deterrent effect of DUI checkpoints is a proven resource in reducing the number of people killed and injured in alcohol or drug involved crashes," police said in a news release. "Research shows that crashes involving an impaired driver can be reduced by up to 20 percent when well-publicized DUI checkpoints and proactive DUI patrols are conducted routinely."
