finished a resurgent stellar season at 11-1-1 and was the runner-up in the Central Coast Section (CCS) Division II Championship, losing 47-14 to Willow Glen of San Jose.

But the second place finish was no loss. The Cherokees enjoyed their , finishing 9-0-1 in the regular season, including 5-0 to win the Peninsula Athletic League Lake Division title. Only two seasons before, the team had finished 1-9.

Eleven players received mention in the all-league team, James Beekley was named the Offensive Back of the Year, and Rob Poulos received Coach of the Year honors.

Almost , Poulos won’t let the success momentarily inflate his players’ egos or allow players to deviate from focusing on the next season.

“We don't want a sense of entitlement, we don't want a resting on our laurels," he said. "One thing that will help is moving up in league. I think that will fight their tendency to feel like they've arrived."

As is true with all high school sports, key players will graduate and leave their beloved Sequoia High. But the determination and grit of a reborn football team will still be evident in this year’s 2011-2012 season.
