📰 News we're reading

1. Redwood City Police admit to improper street camera data sharing (rwcpulse.com) — Redwood City police acknowledged that misconfigured automated license plate readers allowed at least 99 unauthorized database searches over two years, prompting new audits and vendor scrutiny. City officials are now re-bidding the camera contract, weighing privacy, civil liberties, and public safety before a fall council decision that could reshape surveillance on local streets.

2. San Mateo County Board of Supervisors approves $24.3 million for affordable housing providers (rwcpulse.com) — San Mateo County just approved $24.3 million for six affordable housing projects, including $9.3 million for Redwood City's Rise City Apartments on Middlefield Road. Combined with $8 million from the city, this funding will help add family-sized and supportive units for vulnerable residents across the county.

3. Revolution's lifesaving pancreatic cancer drug wins speedy FDA approval (freedom969.com) — Redwood City–based Revolution Medicines has secured a fast-tracked FDA approval for its new pancreatic cancer pill Rasonque, which doubled survival in advanced cases and already drew heavy demand through early access. The decision could bring major revenue to the local company while offering patients a less grueling alternative to chemotherapy and signaling Redwood City's growing influence in breakthrough cancer care.

4. FDA OKs pancreatic cancer drug that's shown to improve survival (vindy.com) — A Redwood City–based biotech, Revolution Medicines, just won FDA approval for its new pancreatic cancer pill Rasonque, which nearly doubled survival time in a major study. While the treatment will be costly and is aimed at advanced cases, it marks a rare, significant advance against one of the deadliest cancers and could pave the way for similar drugs targeting other tumors.

5. Youth advocates rally for stronger Sheriff oversight in San Mateo County (rwcpulse.com) — Youth advocates gathered at the San Mateo County Center in Redwood City to deliver a petition urging supervisors to create an independent inspector general for the Sheriff's Office.
