GUILTY: Man Convicted in Deadly Peninsula Stabbing Over $10

He faces between 15 and 16 years in prison when he's sentenced later this year

REDWOOD CITY, CA –A Turlock man who moved to Belmont early last year was found guilty of murder on Tuesday for killing his new friend in a dispute over $10, prosecutors said.

After about a day of deliberations, a jury found Timothy Guerra, 20, guilty of second-degree murder for the fatal stabbing of 19-year-old Denis Meshchyshyn at the Wendy's restaurant at 698 Ralston Ave. in Belmont at about 7:30 p.m. on April 25, 2015, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office.

Guerra had moved to Belmont a month earlier and became friends with Meshchyshyn through mutual acquaintances. Guerra became angry when he gave Meshchyshyn $10 for a ride the following day but Meshchyshyn never followed through, prosecutors said.
