MAYOR: Multiple Services Could Be Cut If Taxes Don't Pass
Councilmembers are independently campaigning for a business license tax and hotel tax increase.
At the May 25 city council meeting, councilmembers took the initial step toward getting tax measures on the fall ballot. They said an increase on the business license tax and transient occupancy (hotel) tax would provide much needed revenue for the city.
Mayor Jeff Ira answers the following questions:
- How are city councilmembers campaigning for the taxes?
- What services could be cut if these taxes aren't passed?
- How would you respond to those who say struggling small businesses shouldn't have to face an additional tax burden?
- What is the estimated revenue that these taxes could generate?
