MAYOR: "This Cargill Project Process Has Been Frustrating"

Mayor Jeff Ira said many people have already made up their mind about the Cargill Saltworks Project without waiting for the final application and environmental documents.

Editor's note: Every week, Patch will sit down with the Mayor to chat about a pressing issue in Redwood City.

On the Cargill Saltworks Development proposal:

  • Mayor Jeff Ira said residents should wait until the final environmental impact report (EIR) is available and until DMB, Inc. and Cargill submit their application before passing judgment.
  • The applicant has paid for all the city staff's time and research going into the project.
  • Ira mentioned more open space, wetlands restoration and flooding mitigation as pros of the project. He added that the uncertainty regarding traffic numbers and water sources were the biggest cons.
