The sale follows months of controversy over owner Maria Rutenburg's outspoken support for Donald Trump, her participation in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, and her online comments about possibly funding a Trump 2028 campaign. The deal for the Redwood City location reportedly closed last week.

San Jose man sentenced to 21 years in San Mateo hammer attack (mercurynews.com) — In a case handled at the Redwood City courthouse, a San Jose man has been sentenced to 21 years in prison for a brutal 2023 hammer attack at a San Mateo construction site. Prosecutors say the victim, who was struck multiple times in the head, is satisfied with the lengthy sentence, which includes enhancements for great bodily injury and a prior strike.
