Redwood City to evaluate mental health crisis response program amid call for second clinician (rwcpulse.com) — Redwood City is reassessing its mental health crisis response program and weighing whether to add a second clinician to support police, after nearly 1,500 clinician-involved calls since 2022. City staff will evaluate call data, coverage gaps and potential expansion options, with recommendations expected in early 2027 as part of the midyear budget update, which could shape how local residents experience crisis response.
   

2. California kills bill regulating Flock cameras even as public rage grows (valleywidenewspaper.com) — Redwood City police recently ended their contract with license‑plate reader company Flock Safety, part of a broader backlash against the surveillance technology in California and nationwide. At the same time, a state bill that would have tightened privacy rules and limited data sharing from these cameras died in the Assembly. For local residents, that means fewer Flock cameras in town but no new statewide safeguards on how plate data is used or shared.
   

3. Hannah Ormshaw Appointed Parks Director for San Mateo County (smcgov.org) — San Mateo County has appointed Hannah Ormshaw as its new Parks Director, a role based in Redwood City that guides policy for many of the parks locals use. With a background in wildfire recovery and climate resilience, she'll oversee long‑term planning, habitat restoration, and public access improvements across the county's park system. Her leadership is expected to shape how nearby open spaces stay safe, healthy, and accessible.
   

4. San Mateo County acquires apartment building for educator housing (rwcpulse.com) — San Mateo County education leaders, meeting at the SMCOE headquarters in Redwood City, announced the $54.8 million purchase of a 74‑unit San Mateo apartment complex for educator housing. The Azara community will provide homes for teachers and school staff serving county programs, funded through a HEART purchase backed by an SMCOE loan and project bonds.
