Person Struck, Killed By Peninsula Caltrain

The fatality is the fourth on Caltrain tracks this year.

REDWOOD CITY, CA -- Caltrain released a statement early Sunday morning after one of its trains struck someone on the tracks at the Redwood City station on Saturday night.

"It is always regrettable when a life is lost on our tracks," the transit agency said. "Caltrain reminds everyone to be safe around train tracks."

According to officials, the person was struck by northbound train No. 441 around 10:15 p.m. on Saturday. The train was carrying 131 people onboard but nobody on the train was hurt.

All trains were held at the accident scene until 12:06 a.m. today, when they were allowed to travel through the scene at restricted speeds. Some trains were delayed for more than hour as officials investigated the collision.

The fatality is the fourth on Caltrain tracks this year.
