Person Trying To Save Rabbits From Peninsula House Fire Sustains Minor Injuries

The person was hospitalized, fire officials report.

MENLO PARK, CA – Firefighters knocked down a residential fire, that left one person with minor injuries in Menlo Park Sunday evening, according to Fire Chief Harold Schapelhouman.

Fire officials said the fire was first reported at 6:08 p.m. near the rear of a structure located at 336 Grayson Court.

Upon arrival, the fire had spread an attached covered patio, and was rapidly spreading into the unoccupied home, according to fire officials.

One of the residents returned home prior to the arrival of firefighters and sustained minor injuries when they attempted to save rabbits at the residence. Additionally, the victim sustained minor smoke inhalation and was taken to a hospital as a precaution.

Fire officials said an aggressive attack by firefighters limited the fire damage to the inside of the home, however there was water and smoke damage throughout the structure.

The fire was reported under control just before 8 p.m., and the cause is still under investigation.
