Sandpiper After-School Program Earns Kent Award

School's unique program is recognized by County School Boards Association.

was honored last month by the San Mateo County School Boards Association for its innovative after-school enrichment program.

The Kent Award is given to schools in the county that have designed and implemented inventive classroom programs or unique non-classroom programs.

“We are delighted that our schools have been selected for Kent Awards,” Belmont-Redwood Shores School District Superintendent Dr. Emerita Orta-Camilleri said. “Our teachers and principals continue to provide quality programs despite the challenges we face in education today.”

Sandpiper’s after-school enrichment program was designed for students in grades 2-5 by a team of teachers, parents and Principal Linda McDaniel.

Through a variety of offerings, from photography and mathematical-problem solving to technology and journalism, students have an opportunity to extend and enhance their school day.

Parent input and teacher expertise guide the selection process for each course.

Depending on the subject, students produce an array of finished projects, illustrating student accomplishment and engagement.
