Sequoia Students Display True “Identity”
Classes in Sequoia's Art Department have banded together to create the stunning and intimate "Identity" gallery, displaying the student's diversity and perception of the world around them.
The new display in the usually empty room along one of Sequoia High School’s main hallways has sparked unusual curiosity in the students and staff roaming the campus.
The “Identity” exhibit, in which pieces from the International Baccalaureat (IB) Years 1&2 Art, Drawing and Painting, Ceramics, and Photography classes are displayed, is centered around the theme of personal identity and perception. The pieces in the gallery each represent aspects of the young artist’s lives, whether through photographs conveying a particular emotion or trait, a ceramic mug with intricate designs, or a “mosaic” mirror from which multi-colored wax has dripped and then solidified.
These projects are unique in their self-reflection and in the artist’s perception of themselves and those around them. In fact, this gallery is so distinctive and has generated so much local interest that there will be a special viewing at Sequoia High School today to showcase the work of these exceptional students.
