Sheriff's Dept. Warns Of Possible SMC Credit 'Skimming' Operation
Did you fuel up at this gas station? SMC sheriff's officials say you may want to monitor your credit card accounts.

PORTOLA VALLEY, CA — After two men were spotted prying open a Peninsula gas pump this week, officials issued a warning to area residents that the duo may be linked to an identity theft operation. The men, who were not caught, took off with "what appeared to be a credit card reader (skimmer) from the gas pump."
The men were spotted on Monday at 5:25 a.m. at Portola Valley Fuel located at 105 Portola Road, according to sheriff's Det. Rosemerry Blankswade.
"At this time, it is unknown if there are any victims of credit card fraud or identity theft," Blankswade said in a news release. "This is an active investigation. If anyone used their Credit Card or Debit Card at Portola Valley Fuel... in the last few months, we suggest you advise your financial institution and monitor your bank/credit card accounts for any fraudulent activity."
