SILVER ALERT: Search for Missing Peninsula Woman Continues

Belmont police say the woman wandered off from a local elder care facility on Monday morning.

Belmont police asked for the public’s help Monday in locating a woman who wandered off from a local elder care facility in the morning. Now, officials say a “silver alert” has been issued.

According to Belmont Police Capt. Patrick Halleran, 68-year-old Sylvia O’Reilly was last seen around 10 a.m. at the Silverado-Belmont Hills Memory Care Facility, located at 1301 Ralston Avenue, near El Camino Real. She was reported missing at 11 a.m.

“Belmont Police are currently being assisted by Belmont CERT Volunteers as well as San Mateo County Sheriff’s Search & Rescue Volunteers and an aircraft from the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office Air Squadron,” Halleran said of the ongoing search for the woman Monday afternoon.

Around 5 p.m., Halleran said that the search for O’Reilly continued, and that a special alert has been issued via the California Highway Patrol.

“A Silver Alert has been initiated through the California Highway Patrol and a search command center has been established with a designated phone number for the public to call in sightings and tips (650) 637-2948,” he said.

“As of this press release, Search and Rescue Volunteers and Search K9s continue to walk the neighborhoods and businesses in the area of the care facility,” he added. “Bulletins have also gone out to Bay Area Hospitals as well as Samtrans and Caltrain.”

O’Reilly is described as 5-foot-3-inches tall, and weighs about 185 pounds, Halleran said. She has short, curly brown-grey hair and wears glasses. A photo of her is attached.

“Sylvia has dementia and recently moved to the facility from San Jose,” Halleran said. “She is described by the staff as very ambulatory and has no problems getting around.”

Anyone who spots the woman is asked to call the number above or 911 immediately.
