SMC Man ID'd In Deadly Head-On Wreck

The man was a passenger in a vehicle involved in a weekend head-on crash, officials said.

SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA —A man who died at the scene of a head-on collision on state Highway 1 in Pescadero on Saturday night has been identified as 63-year-old J. Guadalupe Hernandez Camacho, according to the San Mateo County coroner's office.

Camacho, a Pescadero resident, was a passenger in a northbound Ford Contour that crossed into the southbound lane and struck a Toyota 4Runner around 8:40 p.m. just south of Bean Hollow Road.

Paulino Najera, the driver, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. He suffered major injuries and was transported to Stanford Medical Center by helicopter.

A third victim was also transported to Stanford Medical Center with major injuries.

An update on the survivors' conditions was not immediately available.
