SMC Opens Filing Period For Write-In Candidates In November Election

November election filing period opens for write-in candidates on November 7th.

REDWOOD CITY-WOODSIDE, CA - From the County of San Mateo: San Mateo County Chief Elections Officer & Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder, Mark Church, announced the opening of the filing period for write-in candidates for the November 7, 2017 Consolidated Municipal, School and Special District Election. “Eligible persons wishing to run as write-in candidates have from September 11 to October 24to file their nomination papers with their Filing Officer,” he said.

Eligible persons seeking to conduct a write-in candidacy for a Municipality should contact their Town or City Clerk for an appointment to file their nomination documents. Those who seek a write-in candidacy for a School or Special District must file their nomination documents at the San Mateo County Registration & Elections Division at 40 Tower Road, San Mateo, CA 94402. School and Special District candidates are encouraged to contact the Filing Officer, Michelle Yue at650.312.5293 or email myue@smcare.org to schedule an appointment.

Potential write-in candidates must file a Statement of Write-In Candidacy providing the candidate’s name and residential address, the candidate’s declaration of candidacy for a specifically named office and specific election date and a Statement of Economic Interests (Form 700). No filing fee or charge shall be required.

No information concerning qualified write-in candidates, including their names, will be printed on voting materials provided to voters such as Official Ballot and Sample Ballot and Official Voter Information Pamphlet. However, the Roster of Candidates is updated every day and can be viewed online at www.shapethefuture.org. Additionally, a list of qualified write-in candidates will be available at voting centers and polling places on Election Day.
